Lotus Notes / Domino
Company Experience
Simacor recognizes e-business as an exciting area for growth. To help our clients maximize their opportunities, Simacor has a team of specialists which can integrate many of the available software development applications, including Lotus Notes/Domino. Domino is an integrated messaging and web application platform; Notes is an e-mail, calendaring, group scheduling, web access, and information management client that works with the Domino server.

Key capabilities of Lotus Notes/Domino:
  • Flexibility - can automate business processes while conforming to existing standards.
  • Workflow management.
  • E-mail and messaging.
  • Knowledge sharing, both on-line and remote.
  • Integrated company-wide personal calendars and resource scheduling.
  • Rapidly built, customized internet applications and WebPages.
  • Rapidly built, customized intranet applications.
  • Security both on the intranet and the internet.
Project Experience:

  • For a Major Airline:
Design and implementation of a secure, web-based global emergency reporting system. This system was used to report on the operational readiness status of 100+ ground stations and several hundred alternate landing sites. It also tracked the status of Flight Information Regions, ground support equipment, IS systems and applications, and many other key functions. During the Y2K event, this site took 30,000 hits within 24 hours without a single data transmission error. Reports from this application were used by the National Transportation Safety Council.

  • For a Major Manufacturer:
Design and implementation of an Environmental Management system which served as a library of all federal, state, and local environmental regulations and pollution permits. This large, multi-database application was designed to act similarly to a relational database while providing the unique messaging, scheduling, and collaboration advantage of Lotus Notes. This workflow application also included a directory of all the people responsible for conducting required tasks and reports, and sent these people e-mail reminders to ensure that these requirements were met and reviewed on time.

  • For a Printing Company:
A printing service ordering system which enabled a major manufacturing company to order its services directly from any of its employee's PCs, through the requisitioning approval process, and then directly to the vendor.

  • For a Software Development Company:
A unified business management system that combined all of these processes and tasks:
  • Employee timecard tracking and approval.
  • Corporate personnel directory.
  • Corporate HR Records, which relied on Notes' capability to provide data security at the field, document, form, view, and database level. This means that two different users with differing access levels may see the same document but view only the data that they are authorized to see. This security is enforced by Notes' 128 bit encryption system.
  • Calendar sharing for all of the company's employees coupled with conference room scheduling. These features simplify identifying timeframes when people and meeting rooms are available.
  • Corporate asset (laptops, projectors, video tapes, books) sign-out and tracking. Not only does this tool act as a library checkout system, it serves as a "card catalogue" as well.
  • Cash flow and revenue projections. This gave the director a constantly updated snapshot of business resource allocation and use.
  • Encouraged compliance with company project-management standards by automatically entering the appropriate deadlines on the project managers' personal calendars, and sending e-mail reminders.
Technical Skills:
  • Notes Formula Language (@Functions and @Commands)
  • LotusScript
  • Web Development (pass-through HTML, graphics, etc.)
  • Certified Notes Professional (CLP) for Notes/Domino 4.5, 4.6, 5.0
